The Right Way to Bet on Hockey

By bettingfool | September 28, 2007

Word has it the NHL is looking to expand by two teams, including one in Las Vegas. How ironic, seeing as hockey gets, what, three percent of the action?

This is a good thing. The smaller the market, the crazier the lines get, which is why we’re always espousing the value of betting the college mid-majors and the West Coast teams. Hockey is also a great way to make some money. And thanks to the work of some dedicated puckheads, we’re entering a world of advanced NHL analysis where not every shot on goal is created equal.

If you’re new at hockey, try betting the totals. It’s an easy concept – over or under five – and some quick and dirty math with goaltenders’ save percentage and team shots on goal will go a long way. Then apply the advanced puck stats, make a sharp bet, and enjoy the game if you can find it on TV.
