Why Play Poker?
By Igor Ivanov | December 6, 2007

There’s so many reasons to play poker it would take a book to write them all down. The best reasons I can think of to play the game are to learn to read a situation before acting, and to win gobs of money.
Poker teaches any dedicated player the value of breaking down a situation before you act – the same way one de-constructs a poker hand to determine what an opponent might be holding. Poker teaches patience and forces you to start paying attention to details; all traits that will serve you well in life.
The other reason is to win lots of money. This isn’t achieved easily; even Chris Moneymaker lost for years before he won the big one at the WSOP. For those players who stay the course and continue to improve, there will be a day when their skills are eventually rewarded with a big win.
