March Madness Bracket: How to Pick Your Winners
By mel | January 24, 2008

If we’re talking Super Bowl, then March Madness must be just around the corner. College basketball’s conference tournaments will be over before you know it; time to start thinking about how you’re going to fill out that bracket this year.
With 64 teams going at it after the play-in game, most brackets get busted well before the second round starts. That’s enough for many poolies to chuck the handicapping altogether and intentionally make wild picks. Two years ago, this strategy paid off for George Mason supporters, among others. But the 2006 Tournament didn’t produce many upsets.
If put at least an ounce of effort into the picks, you should be able to increase your chances of success while fostering more of a personal interest in the outcome. Consider which teams are strong Final Four candidates: annual contenders with experienced coaches invariably populate the later Tournament rounds. Plug in your foursome and flesh out your bracket as you see fit.
