MLB Cheats: Do they Belong in the Hall of Fame?

By bettingfool | December 24, 2007

Baseball Hall of Fame

Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Eric Gagne, Miguel Tejada… and other big name Major League Baseball players listed in the Mitchell Report have been outed for taking steroids. Do these guys belong in the Baseball Hall of Fame? Many would say “absolutely not.” And what about David Justice, Chuck Knoblauch or Mark McGwire? Nope.

If any of these ballplayers are found conclusively to have cheated then they should be struck from the record books. Barry Bonds, for example, should forfeit his home run record and it should be given back to Hank Aaron if Bonds is found guilty of perjury. Roger Clemens should have his seven Cy Young Awards taken away if he is found guilty.

The popular consensus among baseball fans everywhere is that if these guys cheated their way into the record books and won their awards while taking illegal steroids then they should lose their credibility as legit players. But is it really that cut and dry? Who’s to say when and where this all started?

The Baseball Hall of Fame is in for a rude awakening… Click here to see the 2008 Hall of Fame inductions.
