The Right Way to Bet on MLB Playoffs

By bettingfool | October 3, 2007

Baseball? Oh, yeah, that game where you try to hit a ball with a bat. How quaint!

OK, football season may have consumed many of us, but there’s so much money to be made in the MLB postseason, it’s crazy. This is a world where “conventional wisdom” is disproved time and time again. The result: underdogs rule. Last year’s puppies ran all over the yard at 18-14 for a profit of nearly 11 units, culminating in a World Series win for the St. Louis Cardinals (83-78 in the regular season).

The betting public does a very poor job of valuing baseball players. An out is an out, but middle relievers are virtually ignored. Veterans are judged on their past records more than their current production. And the talk around the water cooler is always about curses, clutch hitting and other mystical forces that have no basis in reality. Fade the public.
