The Right Way to Bet on Basketball
By bettingfool | September 27, 2007
We’ve got NBA and college basketball just around the corner. Roundball is the No. 2 gambling sport in North America, and with the baseball playoffs hanging around until October, this is about as busy as it gets for handicappers.
Basketball is a great sport to bet on. You’ve got the pointspreads and totals of football, the number-crunching of baseball, and the artistry of soccer. You also have a litany of handicapping angles: small vs. big markets, Americans vs. Euros, and superstars vs. “team” players among them.
Ideally, your handicapping will take advantage of all these attributes. Look at individual matchups to see which team has the edge, use the numbers to back up your analysis, and check out the betting line to see if it matches your projection. If it doesn’t, and you can explain it with one of the aforementioned angles, you have a potential play on your hands.
