The Importance of Blind Stealing

By bettingfool | June 5, 2008

Blind stealing is an important part of poker because you can often pick up pots with nothing in your hand. When you’re on the button, and everyone else has folded, a raise will often win you the blinds. You do this because the other players will be doing it to you when you’re in the blind positions, and because the blind position players will be at a disadvantage to you if they play.

Blind stealing becomes more important as the blind levels increase. In the later stages of a tournament, blinds can grow to become a major factor, and blind stealing becomes a part of every player’s strategy. Players will even slow play big hands pre-flop because they know that late position players will try and steal, and they can re-raise them once they try. If you don’t steal your share of blinds, your chip stack will deplete over time.
